Ana Aslan International Foundation (Romania)

"Ana Aslan" International Foundation is a non-profit international organization, established in Romania, with international branches. The organization has developed “Ana Aslan” International Academy of Aging (AAIAA), a forum of a high scientific, communication and education instance, calling together personalities of outstanding value in the field of medical science and education, personalities acknowledged on national and/or international level. Another purpose of AAIAA is to organize and support projects and programmes for elders in the scientific, educational and communication medical fields. AAIAA promotes the co-operation between academies, universities, similar institutions and structures in other countries by maintaining direct relations with them, as well as with international organizations of elders. The areas of activity cover Clinical Aging Research, Epidemiological Aging Research, Geriatric Nursing and Caring, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Dementia, Cognitive Disorders and Memory Impairment, Social Science, Health economy, Drugs trials, Gerontoprophilaxy. Through its medical centres, the Foundation aiming to have the control of individual aging processes and to design specific treatment strategies for age related diseases, which are the major objectives for unrolling European Programs. The medical centers, Day Hospital of Memory Impairments and the Department of Geriatrics, Gerontology and Geronto-Psychiatry from Elias University Clinic Hospital are therefore committed to study the dynamics of the aging processes tackling classical and modern methodologies. One of the major concerns is the implementation of the personalized medicine which oriented the research towards establishment of specific tools in evaluation of individual health or pathological status, which may enable us to design specific preventive or treatment strategies.


Key people

Dr. Luiza Spiru MD, PhD, the President of “Ana Aslan” International Foundation is the head of the Geriatric and Geronto-Psychiatry Department to “Elias” University Hospital in Bucharest, and has established and developed two medical centres in Bucharest for the aging people: The Day Hospital of Memory Impairments (2003) and the Anti Aging Medical Society (2006). She is associated editor of “Brain Aging International Journal” and has published over 50 articles and 3 treatises of Geriatrics and Gerontology. She has been involved in several research projects (Tempus Phare ROMGER, VIASAN, ICTUS, DESCRIPA, K4CARE) and clinical studies for the pharmaceutical industry (Pfizer, Novartis, Sanoffi, Johnson & Johnson, Lundbeck etc). Since 2003 is organising the “Brain Aging” International Conference and numerous international and national trainings of Dementias and Memory Impairment.


Athanase Dakas He has MSc Diploma of Chemical Organic Technology, Polytechnic School, National Institute of Chemistry, Bucharest Romania and has managed several programs for the European Community (Mediterranean Integrated Programs (MOÐ), LIFE, EUROFORM, REGIEVOC, EUROTECH and Environmental Auditing) and trained students in the Management of Biotechnological Systems, Environmental Management Systems, Research and Development on Biotechnological Processing. He has been awarded in 1994 with the first award for the Environment from the Athens Academy.
